Our confidential 24-hour hotline is staffed by trained volunteers and professionals, who provide crisis intervention and offer referral services to victims of domestic violence or dating violence. The caring staff at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia (CCSS) offer life-saving information and connect victims to resources every day of the year. Emergency Residential Shelter

The Crisis Center provides emergency, short-term shelter for those experiencing domestic violence. Our recently updated residential facility accommodates up to 35 adults and children, who can be housed by the Crisis Center for up to 60 days.

Transitional Housing

The Crisis Center offers a Transitional Housing Program that helps transition individuals and families from short-term emergency shelter, community counseling or court advocacy to a permanent, safe housing solution.  Clients make reside in this housing for up to 24 months as availability permits.

Counseling Services

The Crisis Center provides individual and group counseling free of charge to anyone who has witnessed or experienced domestic or dating violence. Our counseling services provide emotional support, validate feelings, provide education on domestic violence and offer individual safety planning. All counseling services are confidential, and clients do not need to a be resident of the shelter to obtain services.

Fresh Start Violence Prevention

Educating teens about domestic violence is vital. One in three teens have experienced violence in a dating relationship and 60% of battered women say their first abusive relationship began in high school. In collaboration with local schools, community organizations, churches and youth groups, our Fresh Start Dating Violence Prevention Program works to reduce domestic violence among young people through an interactive education program.  The program is offered by CCSS free of charge to schools, community groups and youth groups.

Abuser Services

The Crisis Center Choices Program was developed in compliance with the Illinois Protocol for Partner Abuse Intervention Program to help batterers end abusive behavior in their relationships. Court-mandated batterers and voluntary clients participate in a 26-week education program and group therapy at a satellite location for on a sliding fee scale.

Legal Advocacy

The Crisis Center provides vital support for victims of domestic violence to write orders of protection and understand victims’ right throughout the court process. Court advocates also provide crisis intervention and follow-up for victims at the Bridgeview and Markham court houses, as well as education for residential clients of the Crisis Center regarding legal and Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) issues.

Medical Advocacy

The Crisis Center’s Medical Advocacy program provides support services at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park to individuals and families affected by domestic violence. Medical advocates provide emotional support, education on the dynamics of domestic violence, safety planning specific to an individual’s situation and counseling and legal assistance referrals. Since medical professionals are often the first point of contact for victims of domestic violence, CCSS staff also is available to train medical staff and students, first responders and other medical personnel about the dynamics of domestic violence and its application in the medical setting.

Community Policing

In collaboration with fourteen suburban police departments, Crisis Center staff members work with police to follow up with victims of domestic violence, provide the most up-to-date information on Illinois laws relating to domestic violence, and help victims receive the services they need.
